On Friday night 20 September, 40 very eager students and 5 staff embarked on a week-long trip to New Zealand to go snowboarding and skiing at Mt Hutt. We stayed in Chalet apartments at Methven (a small town at the base of the Mt Hutt ski area), that offered wonderful views of the ski fields. One night it snowed in our accommodation area and everyone was so excited to witness the flakes falling, make snowballs (huge ones!), and be part of a sparkling, winter wonderland.
The weather was kind to us most of the week with blue sky days to navigate the tricky ski slopes. Most students were like ‘ducks to water’ when it came to skiing/boarding, managing to move across the mountain slopes with a fair degree of elegance! Apart from the flu bug that managed to infiltrate our group, it was a holiday of fun, discovery and new skills learnt.
Our thanks to Mrs Julie Miles for the huge amount of work to prepare for the days away, as well as Mr Parker, Ms Sulendra, Ms Radcliffe and Mr Golding for accompanying us.
