Sport is valued as an integral part of the school curriculum at St Michael’s College. The school prides itself on being able to offer fun and enjoyment for all while nurturing the sporting and personal development of each student. All students, at any level, has the ability to participate in sport. St Michael’s fosters Catholic Christian ethics through sport where fair play, good sportsmanship and respect for opponents are paramount.

The College believes that the sporting program is a vital part of a balanced lifestyle and provides a range of experiences and opportunities. We expect every student to participate in these activities and it is important that all students strive for active involvement and strive to reach their sporting potential.

School Sport South Coast

The College belongs to Hinterland District School Sport and the South Coast School Sport region.

Representative Pathways allow our elite level students the opportunity to participate at a higher level and represent at our College at District, Regional, QLD, as well as National and Pacific School Sporting Competitions. (see links below for trial information)

SMC Representative Teams

Our high level sportsmen and women are given the opportunity to represent the College at various local, state and national competitions. These opportunities include, but are not limited to: SEQLD AFL, Bill Turner Cup Football, QLD Catholic Schools Netball and Vicki Wilson Netball, Titans Challenge Rugby League, QLD All Schools Basketball, Oz Tag and Touch, The Kokoda Challenge, plus National Track & Field Knockouts.

One of the highlights of the College’s Sporting Calendar has been the tradition of entering teams in the QLD Independent Netball & Rugby League Competitions. The annual carnivals are held each year, attracting the finest Independent Secondary School Netball & Rugby League teams in Queensland. Each year the carnival is hosted by a different school and in 2017 the competition moves to Brisbane. Regular member schools cite the atmosphere of the carnival and the spirit in which games are contested as characteristics that excite schools about participating in this annual competition. 

Inter-house Competitions

All students participate in our inter-house competitions in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics, plus other Inter-House Challenge activities throughout the year. The 2018 Inter-House carnivals are on the following dates:

Our carnivals are the first step for our students to progress to district and regional levels in these sports.



The College belongs to the Association of Gold Coast College's inter-school sporting competition. This competition enables all students to represent the College during Terms 1 – 3. Students can choose from a variety of sports.

  • Boys: AFL, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Futsal, Oz Tag, Rugby League, Tennis, Touch & Volleyball
  • Girls: AFL, Basketball, Football, Futsal, Netball, Oz Tag, Tennis, Touch & Volleyball 


​Recreational Sport

In Term 4 our students have the opportunity to participate in Recreational Pursuits. These choices range from Rock Climbing, Yoga, Beach games, Boot Camp, Fishing, Ice Skating, Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle boarding and surfing.
